The Lumen Maris foundation offers pastoral, humanitarian and practical support to seafarers berthing in the three major harbour cities in the Netherlands and Belgium: Terneuzen, Ghent and Antwerp. Through our Port Missionaries we work to enhance the spiritual wellbeing of seafarers. We have dedicated ourselves to demonstrate the love of Christ to all seafarers, both in word and in service to them.

Seafarers come from many different backgrounds, cultures, nationalities and religions. First contacts may start apprehensively, but usually develop into caring friendships. Our Port Missionaries can provide individual attention to seafarers, whether it be simply as a listening ear, or else in helping them get various practical supports.

Lumen Maris considers all seafarers who attend our harbours to be our guests. Seafarers, of course, come and go, but for those who wish so, our Port Missionaries continue their friendly support by correspondence. Keeping the friendship alive though the seafarers may be anywhere in the world.

If you would like to send us an e-mail go to the contact page.

If you would like that we visit you on board in one of our ports,
leave a message.

Co-operation

The Lord's work among seafarers is world-wide, and we have a number of working relationships with like-minded organisations. One particularly close contact is based in England, the Seamen's Christian Friend Society (SCFS).
